To the Parents/Guardians of All Wissahickon School District Students:

Given the difficult times our nation is currently experiencing, I wanted to take this opportunity to assure the parents of all Wissahickon School District students that school district personnel have been working diligently to take every possible measure to address our shared security concerns.

Each school has an emergency plan that provides direction to deal with a variety of circumstances.  The plans are comprehensive and they allow for the effective “on the spot” decision making that may be required in the event of an unspecified set of dangerous circumstances.  These plans have recently been reviewed by the principal of each of our schools.  The principals, in turn, have reviewed them with all staff.

As a District, we are extremely fortunate to have regular and ongoing contact with the law enforcement officials from each of our three municipalities.  We are prepared to call upon their expertise in the event that it becomes advisable to do so.  Most importantly, I want to emphasize that we, as a District, take our responsibility to safeguard the health, welfare, safety, and security of our students very seriously.

In the event of an emergency, parents are advised to immediately tune into the Wissahickon School District Cable Television Channel and/or access the District’s Website (http://mciunix.mciu.k12.pa.us/wsdweb).  You may also access the Wissahickon School District Informational Hotline (215-619-8055) for important updates.

It is my sincere hope that this communication does not heighten anyone’s anxiety.    Please know that as we proceed through these difficult times, the safety and security of your children are foremost in our minds and we will take every precaution to ensure their safety while they are in our care.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Stanley J. Durtan, Jr., Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
